Peggy Lou (Gilbert) Townley passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024, in her beloved hometown of Cyril, Okla. Peggy was a beacon of love, kindness, and unwavering faith, and her life is a testament to the enduring strength of family and community. Born on March 29, 1931, in Cyril, Peggy was the daughter of Snowden and Lutabel (Hanks) Gilbert.

She grew up surrounded by the values of hard work and deep faith, which she carried with her throughout her life. Peggy graduated from Elgin High School in 1950, an accomplishment that paved the way for her many contributions to the communities she touched. In 1951, Peggy married the love of her life, Charles Lee Townley, at the First Baptist Church in Cache, Okla.

, beginning a remarkable journey together that spanned 73 beautiful years. Their union was blessed with a loving family, and Peggy dedicated her life to nurturing and caring for them. Peggy's career was as diverse as it was impactful.

She served the students at Cyril School Cafeteria with warmth and care, provided quality service at Montgomery Wards and the Melody Shop in Wichita Falls, and delighted many with her culinary talents at Chicken Dinner in Medicine Park. Her work ethic and dedication were evident in every role she undertook. Peggy was preceded in death by her daughter, Baby Girl Townley; great-grandsons, Colten Burns and Edgar Hammons II; son-in-law, David Burns; her dear parents, Snowden and Lutabel Gilbert; sister, Susan (Ollie) Price; brothers, Winston (Doris).
