Prayagraj: The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) has planned to repair the dilapidated joggers track at Chandrashekhar Azad Park (Company Garden) in the city. The PDA has issued the tender for this project worth Rs 2.18 crore.

The tender will be opened on September 21 and the work is expected to start by Oct. This synthetic track , built in 2016, was a part of the massive revamp of the entire park. The then Samajwadi Party-led state govt had sanctioned funds worth around Rs 20 crore for the renovation work which included over 3km-long jogging track along with other facilities.

A two-inch thick layer of rubber and sponge coating on the track was laid to give a better grip to joggers. Besides, an artificial lake with a boating facility was also constructed near the main entrance (opposite St Joseph's College) along with fountains, and benches along the track. The presence of ducks in the lake was an added attraction.

After the initial damage, the patches of rubber coating started wearing off and at present around 60% of the track is damaged. The plan to repair the track was made many times but could not be implemented. Howeevr, now the PDA has completed the preparations to re-lay the track by spending Rs 2.
