Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation ( PCMC ), in a standing committee meeting, approved three different schemes to provide financial assistance to the children of wastepickers for education. The civic body, under one of these schemes, will provide annual financial assistance of Rs4,000 to the children of wastepickers studying in Std I to VII, while an annual financial assistance of Rs6,000 will be given to those studying in Std VIII to X. In another scheme that was approved on Tuesday, the civic body will provide a Rs10,000 reward to the children of wastepickers who clear their SSC exam with 50% marks, while Rs 15,000 will be given to those who clear their HSC exam with 50% Besides, PCMC has also approved a scheme to provide Rs7,000 for children studying in Std VIII to X to purchase a bicycle to travel between home and school.
