Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation will clean drains and stormwater lines that have choked up and are overflowing after the recent flooding in several parts of the city. Suresh Mane, a regular commuter in Shivajinagar, said a subway located ahead of Sakhar Sankul was witnessing heavy waterlogging mainly because of choked drains. "Water cannot flow easily here.
It seems drains are clogged," he said. Ashish Kulkarni, who took Apte Road in the Deccan Gymkhana area on Wednesday, said he observed that the drainage chambers were blocked. "The administration needs to look into the issue of overflowing chambers.
The problems persist all over the city. The PMC cleaned the drains as part of its pre-monsoon work but it appears its efforts are insufficient," he said. Dinkar Gojare, superintending engineer with PMC's drainange department, said instructions had been issued to deputy engineers to locate the overflowing chambers and lines.
"We are checking if there are technical faults in designs which are obstructing the flow. We will take immediate measures soon," he said.
