A one-way road system and 20mph speed limit are set to be introduced in Ramsbottom town centre. Businesses in the town have received a letter on the changes before a public consultation on "Streets for All" proposals for Ramsbottom begins next week. The letter, seen by The Local Democracy Reporting Service, describes the "introduction of a one-way system and a 20mph speed limit" on Bridge Street and other nearby roads.
Other proposed changes include road junction improvements, new widened footpaths and upgraded existing and new road crossings around the town centre. Ramsbottom businesses have been invited by Bury Council to book a 20-minute virtual appointment this week to discuss the proposals with scheme consultants, AECOM, and to ask questions about the changes. The letter to businesses states: “We want to improve Ramsbottom town centre to enable traffic to flow more smoothly and safely around the town centre and to make streets and crossings better and safer for walking, wheeling and cycling.
“We are contacting you regarding an upcoming consultation on proposals to achieve this. "The proposals have been developed taking into consideration feedback from an earlier consultation about the Ramsbottom town centre plan. “Together, these proposals aim to make journeys safer and more efficient for everyone.
” Ramsbottom town centre has for a long time been the subject of traffic congestion at busy times. One of the bottlenecks is the junction of Bridge Street and the A676 .
