Chima Azubuike Save the Children International says an additional one million children in Nigeria will be suffering from acute malnutrition by April 2025 unless urgent action is taken. PUNCH Healthwise reports that this prediction follows an analysis by Cadre Harmonisé, which revealed that 5.4 million children are at risk, a 25 percent increase from last year.

“In Nigeria, the crisis is reaching unprecedented levels. Urgent action is essential to combat this devastating trend of child hunger and malnutrition”, said Duncan Harvey, Save the Children’s Country Director. The SCI in a statement on Tuesday identified conflict, insecurity, and climate change as major factors fuelling the crisis, with 33 million people facing food insecurity in 2025, including 16 million children.

Aisha, a mother of six, shared her struggles saying, “Hunger has affected my daughter’s growth...

We’re grateful to Save the Children for their support.” Hajara, a 15-year-old child campaigner, pleaded, “We need leaders to step up, bring security back, and help us get support so every child can grow up safe, well-fed, and healthy.” Save the Children urged governments to address food insecurity, stabilise prices, and protect farmers.
