Hyderabad: While the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation ( GHMC ) has been making tall claims about enhancing the city’s green spaces , the children’s park adjacent to Hussainsagar in Lower Tank, tells a different story. The park’s facilities, including the toilets, child play area, fountains, and lawns, are in a deplorable state and desperately need attention. The current condition of the park renders it unsuitable for children to enjoy and play in.

The lack of proper maintenance has led to the deterioration of the park’s infrastructure, making it an unpleasant and potentially unsafe place, claim visitors. When TOI visited the park recently it found an electric pole lying in the lawn. It was learnt that it had been there for a long while.

Also, the steps were littered with garbage, with an accompanying stench that made it difficult to sit there for long. The toilets in the park were in a terrible state, with broken fixtures, clogged drains, accumulated garbage, and a lingering stench. The lawns were overgrown and unkempt and the pathways cracked and uneven, making them treacherous for visitors to navigate.

Visitors said that the play area, which should be a safe haven for children to enjoy and explore, is littered with broken equipment and sharp edges that pose a serious risk to kids. “The once-beautiful fountains have long since ceased to function, and the stagnant water that has collected in their basins has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other p.
