This year’s Olympics 2024 Opening Ceremony has been slammed by outraged viewers – including Tesla CEO Elon Musk – who branded it as ‘extremely disrespectful’ to Christians. As the 33rd Olympic Games kicked off in Paris , France last night, the Opening Ceremony was overseen by Artistic Director Thomas Jolly, who pulled out all the stops in welcoming the event back into the city. The explosive – if rain-sodden – celebration included a show-stopping (or starting) performances from the likes of Celine Dion , Lady Gaga and heavy-metal band Gojira, and appearances from the likes of, uh, American rapper Snoop Dogg too .

Meanwhile, sporting icons Zinedine Zidane, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal joined the procession to participate in the Olympic torch relay. More controversially, the opening event also saw a portrayal of Leonardo DaVinci’s Last Supper – featuring a diverse line-up which included several drag artists among those dining at the iconic table. This drew the ire of several commentators online, who likened the display of celebration and inclusivity to something out of ‘Sodom and Gomorrah.

’ The portrayal of the scene came under fire as it aired, with Elon Musk commenting via X: ‘This was extremely disrespectful to Christians.’ Meanwhile, professional boxer Ryan Garcia also shared his thoughts, writing on Instagram: ‘The Olympics needs to be boycotted now. You can’t disrespect religion in front of millions.

This ain’t right no one watch.’ Th.
