Big White Ski Resort celebrated the 44th annual BC Rivers Day by presenting the Okanagan Forest Task Force with a $2,000 cheque. "Big White Ski Resort is dedicated to protecting the beautiful forested landscapes that make British Columbia unique," said the resort's Senior Vice President Michael Ballingall. "Partnering with the Okanagan Forest Task Force aligns perfectly with our values of environmental stewardship.
" The volunteer organization works to clean up the Okanagan and restore the beauty of the backcountry. Task Force Founder Kane Blake welcomed the funds. "It shows that larger businesses believe in our mission, and we hope it inspires other companies to join in the effort to keep BC beautiful," said Blake.
"All donations help further our work in keeping the backcountry clean and beautiful for both wildlife and people. As we’re not government-funded, we rely on the support of community members and businesses to keep our efforts going." The funds donated will help OFTF buy supplies, repair equipment, provide meals for volunteers and install trail cameras.
A donation of the same amount was provided by Big White in 2020. Similarly, those funds were used to purchase trail cameras in an attempt to deter illegal dumping near the ski resort. Big White is calling on other local businesses to get involved.
"In fact, we challenge other businesses to step up and join us by matching or even doubling our contribution to help protect these vital natural spaces," Ballingall said. .
