Vadodara: Navrachana University (NU) has been awarded a grant of Rs 83.2 lakh by the department of biotechnology (DBT) for a groundbreaking research project aimed at improving symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The three-year project, titled "Can β-glucan-induced gut microbiome metabolites improve PCOS symptoms? An experimental and clinical study," will be conducted under the DBT's biomedical task force scheme.

This collaborative effort involves NU and Gujarat Biotechnology University (GBU), Gandhinagar. Dr Darshee Baxi will lead the project as the principal investigator, with Dr Tejal K Gajaria as co-investigator. The two researchers are from the department of biomedical and life sciences at NU's school of science.

GBU's Dr Ravindra Pal Singh and Dr Surya Ramachandran will also contribute as principal and co-investigators. "This research is crucial in tackling the complexities of PCOS, a condition with no definitive cure, often leading to infertility and metabolic issues. The project aims to develop new therapeutic approaches by harnessing the gut microbiome's potential," said Baxi.
