Two formerly derelict townhouses in "historic" Northumberland Square in North Shields have been returned to their former glory. The 19th-century grade II listed properties, 11 and 12 Northumberland Square, have received a facelift and now consist of five flats and a townhouse. North Tyneside Council bought the townhouses and brought in Compass Developments for the conversion works.

Northumberland Square has seen significant regeneration in recent times, with previous regeneration efforts on the Square and Howard Street being shortlisted for awards from The Civil Institute of Civil Engineers.
