Monday, September 23, 2024 ERGOSE, the Greek railway infrastructure manager, is entering a critical phase of implementation for several major rail projects aimed at transforming the transportation landscape in northern Greece. These projects, encompassing the upgrade of 370 kilometers of railway tracks, are set to position the region as a central hub linking Asia, the Balkans, and Europe. With European rail networks being more integrated than ever, Greece has a unique opportunity to leverage its geographic location for economic growth and international connectivity.

According to ERGOSE’s plans, these upgrades will bring about significant changes in how goods and people move through northern Greece. The ports in this region, especially those in Thessaloniki and Alexandroupoli, are expected to play an instrumental role in this transformation. With enhanced railway infrastructure, these ports will be better equipped to handle increased volumes of cargo and passengers, boosting their strategic importance on the global stage.

ERGOSE’s CEO, Christos Paleos, recently shared insights with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) on the significance of these projects. He emphasized that the developments align with the broader objective of improving Greece’s rail network, which has long been in need of modernization. The aim is not only to increase the railway’s capacity but also to ensure that the network is safer and more reliable for both freight and passenger transport.

Safe.
