Wednesday, September 25, 2024 The 19th edition of the Northeast India Festival in Istanbul brought the vibrant culture of Northeast India to the forefront, offering a captivating display of the region’s heritage through fashion, music, and art. This celebration highlighted the unique traditions and artistic expressions that define the region, making it a memorable cultural showcase on an international stage. A vibrant group of 54 participants from Northeast India recently traveled to Istanbul, Turkey, infusing the city with the rich colors, textures, and traditions of their homeland.

This eclectic team, which included designers, models, folk artists, entrepreneurs, and government officials, came together in the historic city to present the cultural wealth of their region at the North East India Festival. Now in its 19th edition, the festival was spearheaded by the North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT) under the leadership of CEO Vikram Rai Medhi. With the support of the Consulate General of India in Istanbul and sponsorship from the Department of Tourism, Government of Meghalaya, the event aimed to elevate Northeast India’s tourism, textiles, and handicrafts to an international audience.

In early September, the festival unveiled a stunning blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern design. Acclaimed designers from the region, including Daniel Syiem and Moryca Marak from Meghalaya, Robert Naorem from Manipur, Bambi Kevichusa from Nagaland, Escape from Mizor.
