Friday, July 19, 2024 With the help of a tactical decision to enhance tourism, finally North Korea in May 2025 is all prepared to open its long-deserted Wonsan-Kalma Beach Resort. At first it was introduced in 2018, the project experienced interruptions in 2019 because of missed deadlines and the international pandemic situation in 2020. But, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, while visiting the site on July 16th, 2024, unveiled about its opening in the following months.
A NK News report explained that the Wonsan-Kalma Beach Resort spreads across 605 acres, highlighting an unspoiled white-sand beach, numerous buildings, and hotel rooms. As per the Korean Central News Agency, this emphasized the first visit to the site by Kim Jong Un in five years. He declared at the time of his visit that construction had “entered the final stage”.
With all the top officials, a ‘consultative meeting’ took place as well, wherein in detail, the project was talked about. Kim Jong Un highlighted the significance of dedicated leisure services, like an amusement park to provide a good tourist experience. Furthermore, a good waste management system was emphasized as the need of the hour.
Reports advises the fact that a few tourists from Russia have already had a close look at the resort. Also, the North Korean leader stated devices to recuperate tourism in other provinces as well like Mount Chilbo, Mount Kumgang, Kumya, Majon, Riwon and Yombunjin..
