Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin North Cascades National Park - Diablo Lake Vista Point Geoffrey Morrison North Cascades National Park is, if you look at the numbers, a shockingly under-visited park. Roughly the same distance from Seattle as Olympic and Rainier National Parks, North Cascades has a fraction of their visitors. Given how stunning it is, with glacial lakes and towering mountains, this low visitorship is all the more baffling.

Some of this is likely due to how much of the park is closed between the late autumn and spring. The rest is largely due to a bit of a technicality, which I’ll get into below. Regardless, there’s still lots to do during the shoulder seasons, and of course a lot more during the summer.

In addition to the epic landscapes, there are some interesting human additions too, including several hydroelectric power plants and dams, some of which you can hike to and on. Don’t let the low numbers fool you, this is a great National Park that’s worth at least a day trip. Here are a few things to keep in mind before you go.
