Pune: There is a rush to send Diwali faral to friends and relatives abroad through post offices , with the festival of lights just three weeks away. For this, one need not visit post offices, said Ramchandra Jayabhaye, postmaster general, Pune region. Citizens in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad city areas can book over phone for collection of Diwali faral parcels from their homes, with packing services available at major post offices across the city to ensure hassle-free delivery.

Jayabhaye was speaking at the World Post Day celebration on Wednesday. A consumer meeting was organized at Hotel Aurora Towers by the Pune region office, comprising Pune, Satara, Solapur and Ahmednagar. "Last year, the postal department set a record of sending 7500 kg of faral abroad from Pune during Diwali.

This year, we expect even more. Pune City District Post Office, Pune City Main Post Office, Chinchwad East, Market Yard, Parvati and other major Post Offices have equipment for packing faral. Sometimes people do not have time to come to the post office and send the faral.

Jayabhaye further said that the number of citizens taking advantage of the service of sending letters and parcels abroad is increasing day by day through nine parcel units and Dak Niryat Kendras in Pune regi.
