We might be biased, but we believe Merseyside has some of the best beaches in the country. From secluded, peaceful beaches to stretches of sand that offer stunning views across the river, whatever you're looking for in a beach you're never too far away from one that fits the bill. Today, August 30, marks National Beach Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the beauty of our beaches and importance of keeping them clean.

Last month, The Times published its list of the UK's 50 best beaches, and none of Merseyside's beautiful coastline featured. The country's 543 beaches were whittled down to 50 based on water quality, natural beauty, infrastructure, accessibility and the local community's thoughts. Cornwall's The Towans, Hayle, was rated the best, but none of Merseyside's gorgeous beaches made the list.
