Nine restaurants across east London have made it onto the list of shortlisted nominees in the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards (ARTA). The annual awards celebrate and recognise the best of the UK's Pan Asian cuisine in both national and regional awards. Restaurants and takeaways are nominated by customers, with the winners decided by a judging panel.

This year, the awards ceremony will take place on October 6 at London's Royal Lancaster. Singam Bay restaurant is located in Cranbrook Road. The restaurant has successfully made it onto the final ten Asian restaurants shortlisted for the Regional Restaurant of the Year for Essex.

The Grand Cholan (Image: Google Maps) The restaurant's menu is inspired by the Chola dynasty of the Tamil Kingdom, whose rule saw new spice blends and dishes brought to Southern India, Southern Asia, and Sri Lanka. It is one of the potential winners of the Regional Restaurant of the Year award for City and East.

The Eastern Eye Balti House can also be found in Brick Lane and is within a two minute walk of fellow Indian restaurant Sheba Restaurant.
