Traffic jams in Bibury on Bank Holiday Monday (Image: Jonathan Buckmaster ) Villages in one of the prettiest regions in Britain want to ban 'cruise ships of the Cotswolds' coaches which they claim are causing dangerous traffic chaos and making locals' lives a misery. The beautiful settlements of Bibury and Bourton-on-the-Water have experienced rocketing tourist numbers since the Covid pandemic fuelled by popular social media images of their uniquely English countryside appeal. But with small ancient roads and a lack of parking, residents living in this gorgeous part of the country say they now feel overwhelmed by visitor numbers and especially large coaches which "cause mayhem for half an hour" while visitors take a photo for Instagram or TikTok "and then just go".

Craig Chapman, the chairman of the parish council in Bibury, which has a population of less than 600, told Express.co.uk: “These coaches are like cruise ships for our village, the dynamic here is very different from Bourton, because we don’t have the commercial activities, we have one hotel, one pub and the trout farm.
