The Kidman family is rushing back to Australia after the death of matriarch Janelle, who died in Sydney overnight. Nicole Kidman had just landed in Italy for the Venice International Film Festival when the death of her mother at age 83 was announced. Her younger sister Antonia was pictured visiting her late mother’s home on Sunday afternoon, hugging a friend and placing a single flower at the door.

Nicole is returning to Australia to be with the rest of her family. Speaking to the audience at the festival on Saturday night via a note read out by Babygirl director Halina Reijn, Kidman said her “heart is broken”. “Today I arrived in Venice to find out shortly after, that my beautiful, brave mother Janelle Ann Kidman has just passed,” it read.

“I am in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her, she shaped me, she guided me, and she made me. “I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina, the collision of life and art is heart-breaking, and my heart is broken. “We love you all.

” Kidman told the Fresh Air podcast in 2022 that her mother was experiencing a string of health issues. She added they had managed to visit the Art Gallery of New South Wales to see the Matisse: Life and Spirit; exhibition, which she described as like a “soothing balm”. Kidman said she felt lucky to be able to see the world through her mother’s eyes, and described her outlook as “so beneficial”.
