Former BBC Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw and his 81-year-old mother got a fright when their apartment was targeted by a masked gang of thieves in Ibiza. Nick was over on the island celebrating his milestone 40th birthday, which landed on August 14. Accompanied by friends and family, including his mum, Eileen Grimshaw, and fiancé Meshach Henry, Nick had rented a villa for the occasion.

To his horror, however, the podcaster and presenter – who is also on Channel 4 ’s Celebrity Gogglebox – had his place ransacked while he slept. A source told The Sun , who first reported the story, that ‘there has been a spate of attacks in luxury villas across Ibiza this summer ’. They said: ‘Sadly, Nick’s villa was on the target list – simply due to it being known for being used by high-net-worth clients.

‘The gang would have had no idea who he was. Sadly it’s a case of the wrong place at the wrong time but it’s scary, to say the least. ‘Nick was obviously upset but thought it best to keep things off social media.

’ They added: ‘When the raid happened, Grimmy, his mum and his friends were in the villa. ‘Luckily they were asleep, but it was unsettling to wake up to, to say the least.’ Nobody was hurt during the incident and Nick is now back in London already, Metro.
