Next has started imposing a 15p charge on customers for clothes hangers in some of its UK stores. The high street fashion giant has introduced the fee at four shops, as part of an effort to reduce plastic waste. Shoppers are charged when they want to take home a hanger with their purchase.

A spokesperson from Next stated: "We are trying to reduce the amount of plastic being used to help protect the environment, therefore we retain the hangers and reuse them across the business. The small charge goes towards the production of more hangers.
