Thursday, November 7, 2024 American Airlines resumes daily nonstop flights from New York to Barbados, boosting winter tourism and celebrating nearly 50 years of partnership with the island. American Airlines (AA) has officially restarted its nonstop flights connecting New York’s John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport to Barbados’ Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI), just in time to welcome travelers for the island’s winter 2024/2025 season.
Flight AA585, led by Captain Brian Nealis and First Officer Benjamin Sebek, touched down at BGI around 12:18 p.m., carrying 135 passengers, including Barbados’ Consul General to New York, Lorenzo Harewood.
An American Airlines spokesperson expressed the airline’s excitement at deepening its commitment to Barbados, a destination it has proudly served for nearly half a century. As the largest U.S.
airline, American Airlines is thrilled to operate this new daily route from JFK using its Boeing 737 fleet, further opening Barbados to customers worldwide and supporting the island’s thriving tourism industry. On Saturday, November 9, American Airlines will add a new weekly service from Philadelphia to Barbados, also utilizing its Boeing 737 aircraft. Celebratory Arrival in Barbados The inaugural flight’s passengers and crew were greeted by the acting CEO of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc.
(BTMI), GAIA Inc.’s CEO, and representatives from the Ministry of Tourism. Welcoming festivities featured the Haynesville Tuk Band and dancers.
