For the first time all season, there’s a new top team in Macomb County. The Dakota Cougars, thanks to back-to-back MAC Red wins and an unscathed record, moved into the pole position thanks to the former top dogs, the De La Salle Pilots, were blown out on the road in Ohio. The Cougars and Pilots were just two of six teams to be in a new spot in this week’s rankings, though no team moved more than one spot either way.

The rankings are as follows: The Cougars aren’t the only undefeated team left in Macomb County, but they sure look like the best. They’re now 2-0 in MAC Red play as well, knocking off two objectively good teams by multiple scores. It’s nothing if not proof that the Cougars are ready for anybody that comes their way, and with a bevy of excellent players across both units, there’s always a threat of somebody stepping up.

Next: vs. Chippewa Valley (1-3) Not only did the Pilots quest for an unbeaten season come to a screeching halt, it did so in blowout fashion. And while Central Catholic is absolutely a phenomenal football team, it was most people’s understanding that the Pilots were going to be better.

And maybe they are – but they suddenly have to prove it again after a shocking 35-point road loss in Ohio. Next: at Detroit Catholic Central (4-0) on Sunday The Eagles are holding steady at the No. 3 after getting their fourth-straight double-digit win to start the season, handling an Anchor Bay team that was in disarray on Friday night playing without.
