Red Lodge, a town with less than 3,000 residents about a two-hour drive from Yellowstone National Park, ranks No. 1, according to the study by travel insurance company InsureMyTrip .

Cannon Beach, Oregon, ranks No. 2, and Cape May, New Jersey, is No. 3.

The 75 towns were judged on various criteria, including peacefulness, spaciousness, crime, number of festivals and parades and quality of hotels, restaurants and cafes.

Red Lodge is spacious with 371 people per square mile and has abundant outdoor activites and highly rated hotels and restaurants, according to the study. Surrounded by the Beartooth Mountains, the town is ideal for walks, and the Beartooth Highway leading to Yellowstone National Park is one of the nation’s most scenic roads, the study says.
