The “Sonic the Hedgehog” film franchise has seen its critical acclaim and box office grow with each subsequent outing, with the recent third film surpassing its predecessor’s worldwide box office this past weekend. Each film also keeps getting bigger in terms of scale, with the third one involving some massive set pieces. It turns out more was planned than what we ended up with, probably to keep the film within its reasonable $122 million budget.

Concept art from the film, published by Tacit Sign Studio, has gone online via and . Around sixteen pieces of art are shown, with many showing off scenes that ended up in the film, albeit with some minor changes. However, several pieces of art showcase scenes not in the film.

One shows a giant ball of debris chasing Knuckles and Tails on a Vespa, another shows our trio of heroes escaping from a giant sand wave, and another shows Amy taking down a giant robot. The most notable one seems to be a possible alternate post-credits scene set in a post-apocalyptic world where Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik is Emperor.

In this scene, the Eggman wears an outfit very akin to Ming the Merciless from the 1980 Flash Gordon film and seems to have Metal Sonic as his personal bodyguard. Will any of these ideas be carried over to the fourth film in the series? It’s not clear yet. That film is eyeing a Spring 2027 release and will likely go into production toward’s year’s end or very early next year.

Meanwhile, “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is se.
