Two of the biggest names in Niagara culture are behind the region’s newest art gallery opening in Niagara-on-the-Lake this month. Artist/DJ Marinko Jareb and artist Dillon Douglas are teaming up to open The NOTL Contemporary, located above the Ironwood Cider House on Lakeshore Road. The venue has a gala grand opening Nov.
24 from 4 to 8 p.m. “We want to make the opening a real spectacle,” said Jareb.
“There’s going to be a lot of moving parts. It’ll be exciting, dynamic.” The exhibition “Super Dope” will be the first exhibition in the 1,000-square-foot space, featuring a curated selection of work Jareb said will “challenge perceptions and inspire dialogue.
” The opening will include live music, refreshments and a circus performance. Niagara chef Ryan Crawford (Itty Bitty Farm Stand, Ruffino’s) will be on site making pizza. Jareb said the gallery has been in the works since May.
“I have a long history in the arts, and I do think there’s a tonne of examples of really cool galleries and art scenes in different tourist markets,” he said. “Specifically, Miami and Las Vegas. “I think there’s a big opportunity in Niagara for that, and I think Niagara-on-the-Lake is a good fit for that.
” Tickets for the opening gala are $30, which includes an exclusive art print. All proceeds go toward future programming. The gallery will initially spotlight established and emerging Niagara artists, but Jareb said the mandate will expand with future shows.
