It’s not always easy to find out which movies hit theaters each week, especially after the Hollywood strikes led to so many release date changes. With the WGA and actors strikes resolved and summer blockbusters rolling in, August is filled with both big-budget flicks and new indie releases. Premiering Aug.

23 is “ Blink Twice ,” a mystery thriller following a cocktail waitress who is swept away on an island vacation by a tech billionaire — only to discover not everything is as perfect as it seems. The film stars Naomi Ackie, Channing Tatum, Alia Shawkat and Christian Slater. Also on Friday, “ The Crow ” arrives in theaters.

Starring Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs, the remake of the ’90s cult classic follows a young man who is given another chance at life to avenge the murder of his soulmate. Two films getting limited releases this week are “Catching Dust,” a thriller about a woman harboring her criminal husband, and “Greedy People,” a comedy about a small-town community that stumbles upon a dead body and $1 million. Keep an eye out for “AfrAId” and “1992,” which both release next week.
