“Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight is reportedly no longer writing the upcoming “Star Wars” film, previously nicknamed “New Jedi Order,” that will see the return of Daisy Ridley’s Rey. broke the story and indicates that as a result of this, the film will likely not achieve its previously rumored December 2026 release date. Knight took over from original screenwriters Damon Lindelof (“Watchmen”) and Justin Britt-Gibson (“Counterpart”) who departed the project very early last year.
At one time this was expected to be the first new “Star Wars” film to hit screens following the release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019. That plan was shot down when “The Mandalorian & Grogu” film was set for Summer 2026. Lucasfilm is now hunting for a new writer on “New Jedi Order,” while Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy remains attached to direct the project.
Whether Lucasfilm will give up that December 2026 slot is unclear, especially with reporting this week that James Mangold could be going into production on his “Dawn of the Jedi” project next year.
