Researchers from Hong Kong will be taking a closer look at Bristolians over the next year as they compare the two cities' carbon emissions and energy consumption. The project, which ultimately would like to test how education and technology can impact household energy use, aims to link the two cities and see how they can learn from each other. Researcher Cecily Yip, who is from Hong Kong but now settled with her family in Yate , will be studying the behaviour of 50 households in Yate and 50 living in Easton and Barton Hill.

These 100 Bristolians will be then be compared with 100 Hong Kong households who are participating in a parallel research project. Cecily, who organised a carbon-free fair last weekend, is still looking for households who would like to be part of the study which will begin in November 2024 and continue for 12 months. Participants will be given tools to help them reduce their carbon emissions and be encouraged to form a community of ‘smart energy consumers’ with their neighbours.
