The warning, which applies to the Benitatxell area, was issued after officials detected dangerously high salt levels in the local water supply. This makes it unsafe for drinking, cooking, and even brushing teeth.
The situation arose due to drought conditions that led to an increased presence of seawater in the domestic water supply. On Friday, August 9, local council officials initiated the distribution of bottled water to residents and tourists in the affected areas. Approximately 1,080 bottles of La Serreta spring water, sourced from Font de Figuera, were distributed within two hours.
The La Serreta company was selected for its ability to provide rapid delivery at a competitive price. The local government has also announced the installation of drinking water tanks at four strategic locations across Benitatxell, where people can refill their bottles. This measure is intended to alleviate the inconvenience caused by the ban on tap water usage, which came into effect last week.
Benitatxell mayor, Miguel Angel García, emphasized that the distribution of bottled water was completed in record time, despite the logistical challenges.
