Netflix thriller Ripley is one of the streamer's most stunning exports, but what's even more impressive is that it improves on a classic Matt Damon movie. Featuring Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers) in the title role, with Oscar-winner Steven Zaillian on writer-director duties, this year's eight-episode miniseries follows '60s con artist Tom Ripley as he's hired by a wealthy New York City businessman to persuade his wayward son to return home from Italy. Upon meeting this luxuriating layabout, Tom smells a deadly opportunity.

Alongside the Irish leading man is Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf, Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood, Eliot Sumner as Freddie Miles, and Maurizio Lombardi as Inspector Pietro Ravini, while John Malkovich and Bokeem Woodbine cameo. Nominated across 13 categories at next month's 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, Ripley has made quite a splash with online reviewers. "Exquisitely told, gorgeous in every frame, and with probably one of the greatest television performances of all time (Andrew Scott), this is a retelling of Ripley and a crime drama that will be remembered for a long time," read one massive thumbs-up.

"Steven Zaillian's directorial spin is a true masterclass in tension building, a simmering arc of madness, and finding stillness in the moments that characterise a psycho." Another person wanted Scott's portrayal to receive more recognition amongst the casuals, explaining: "The mix of his peculiar charm and cold-bloodedness is amazing." Careful to ment.
