Across nine episodes, viewers will follow the murder of Jose and Mary Louise ‘Kitty’ Menendez in Netflix's latest series Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story. The duo were murdered by their two son’s Lyle and Erik in 1989. Starring the likes of Javier Bardem and Chloe Sevigny, the crime series is the second instalment in the Monster anthology.
It follows the success of the 2022 series Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, where Netflix fans delved into the life and crimes of the infamous serial killer. However, people have slammed the upcoming title for the Menendez’ crimes. On social media, one person argued ahead of its release that the two brothers were not ‘monsters’ but victims of physical and sexual abuse at the hands of their father Jose.
They said: “I hate that it's called Monsters. Yes these boys did the wrong thing, but I honestly believe it was justified because their parents abused, tortured, and assaulted these boys their whole life. “They wrongfully took away any chance these boys had at living a normal life.
IMO they got what they deserved free these boys." The two brothers, who were 21 and 18 at the time, claimed their dad had abused them while their mother was aware and didn’t intervene. They said they murdered their parents out of fear their father would kill them first.
