Netflix has officially given a new Ghostbusters animated series the greenlight, according to Variety . Although details on the show’s plot haven’t been dug up yet, the site does say that the writer behind The Daily Show and the Mystery Science Theater 3000 revival, Elliott Kalan, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. It’s said to feature a 3D art style with a tone that should feel familiar to those who have seen the last few Ghostbusters movies.

No release date plans have been revealed. Netflix had previously laid out plans to bring a Ghostbusters animated series to life back in 2022. At the time, the streaming giant said the show was in the works in collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation as well as ghost-busting veterans Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, who will also serve as executive producers.

Today’s update confirms that work on the show, while still in its early stages, is moving full steam ahead at Netflix. IGN has reached out to Netflix for comment. Ghostbusters fans have been treated to a series of new projects recently, including this year’s theatrical release, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and 2022’s asymmetrical multiplayer game, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.
