Fans have been thrilled to discover one particularly obscure joke that happens in season six, where one of Britain’s Got Talent’s biggest stars is brought up. The reference to the ITV show happens during episode 15’s Return of the King, where we find out that Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) has a hilariously bizarre family connection.
As it turns out, Charles Boyle is canonically related to none other than viral singer Susan Boyle , who starred on Britain’s Got Talent back in 2009, eventually coming second to the dance group Diversity. Audiences were left gobsmacked after hearing the unassuming Susan sing I Dreamed a Dream from Les Misérables for the first time. In Return of the King Boyle, who is known for having a huge and rather bizarre family, dropped the bombshell in what seemed like a throwaway joke.
Speaking to the baffled squad, he revealed: “It’s such a classic Boyle trait not to recognise talent. My cousin, Susan, didn’t know she could sing until her late forties.” This is clearly a quip about Susan Boyle, who notably didn’t audition for the ITV show until she was 48.
