Monday, November 11, 2024 Travelers from various Asian and European nations can now conveniently make payments at over 875,000 merchants in Nepal using their mobile payment apps. This development results from a partnership between Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL) and Ant International, which operates Alipay+. This strategic collaboration, introduced at the Singapore Fintech Festival 2024, enables Alipay+ users to complete transactions by scanning NEPALPAY QR codes at participating locations.
The service supports a wide range of mobile payment apps, including Alipay (China), AlipayHK (Hong Kong SAR), MPay (Macao SAR), Touch ’n Go eWallet and MyPB (Malaysia), GCash (Philippines), Naver Pay and Toss Pay (South Korea), TrueMoney (Thailand), Hipay (Mongolia), Tinaba (Italy), and Singapore’s Changi Pay and OCBC Digital. The partnership is designed to bolster tourism in Nepal and aligns with the central bank’s strategic vision of fostering global payment connectivity. In May 2024, Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL) and Ant International formalized their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding.
This agreement paved the way for the service’s official rollout, which took place six months after the signing..
