Neighbours executive producer reveals the truth about Ryan Moloney's exit from iconic Aussie soap READ MORE: Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause drops major hint about new Neighbours character By Stephen Bisset For Daily Mail Australia Published: 05:03 BST, 11 August 2024 | Updated: 05:03 BST, 11 August 2024 e-mail View comments Neighbours executive producer Jason Herbison has revealed the reason behind Ryan Moloney's departure from the long-running Aussie soap. Moloney, 44, who plays long-standing character Jarrod 'Toadfish' Rebecchi, announced in June that he would be leaving Ramsay Street after almost 30 years. After making the announcement, Moloney recently said that the decision to leave the soap wasn't his choice.

Herbison has now revealed that the reason behind Moloney's departure was the natural progression of the show. 'Like all long-running shows around the world, we want to constantly evolve to best match what's happening in the world and to keep the production model fresh and sustainable,' Herbison told TV Tonight . 'We want to keep viewers on their toes, while also progressing storylines in a natural way.

' Herbison added that while Toadie will be leaving Erinsborough, it may not be forever, with legacy characters such as Harold Bishop, played by Ian Smith, frequently returning to Ramsay Street. 'Just recently we welcomed Harold back to the show, as a semi-regular character rather than full time. So much for him drowning in 1991,' he said.
