Pune: Baramati MP Supriya Sule on Saturday said even BJP ’s alliance partners supported the opposition ’s stand on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024, which was transferred to the joint parliamentary committee (JPC) after the uproar. “Now, there is no more a Modi govt at the centre, but it is an NDA govt. The higher number of opposition members in Parliament has increased the opposition’s strength.

Union minister of parliamentary affairs and minority affairs Kiren Rijiju had introduced the bill in Parliament on Thursday. According to govt, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill aims at modernising the management of Waqf properties by enhancing women’s rights, ensuring equitable representation on the Central Waqf Council and Waqf boards, and reducing litigation. The bill was referred to the joint parliamentary committee (JPC) after the opposition parties registered a strong protest against it.
Supriya, who was one of the MPs to oppose the bill, said, “They (BJP) are in power for some time now but they have failed in delivering good governance. As a result, their numbers are now reducing. They even have to withdraw some bills in Parliament.
