Veteran actress and television personality Nana Ama McBrown has disclosed her reasons for not participating in Nigerian films, citing a perceived lack of support for Ghanaian creatives. On her show, Onua Showtime on Onua TV, McBrown didn’t hold back her frustration with how Ghanaian contributions are received in Nigerian media, a key factor in her decision. She shared a specific incident from Nigerian reality television, where a song by Ghanaian artist Sarkodie was abruptly removed from a broadcast, a clear example of the lack of support for Ghanaian creatives.

“I don’t usually watch Big Brother Naija,” McBrown said. “My relatives convinced me to subscribe to DSTV, but I don’t watch television regularly. I was particularly interested in a show called Maxy, but instead, they tuned into Big Brother.

During a weekend party segment, I heard the DJ play a Sarkodie track, but within less than a minute, the song was quickly changed. This experience, among others, reinforced my decision not to participate in Nigerian films. McBrown’s comments not only highlight ongoing discussions about cross-cultural support within the entertainment industry but also underscore the significant impact of her stance on the challenges faced by Ghanaian artists seeking recognition in Nigeria.
