This December, if you’re headed to Meghalaya for a trip to the double decker root bridges, make a two-day pitstop in Umbir village that straddles the gorgeous Umiam Lake, for the local-run Hills Festival. The two-day festival is returning for its 5th edition, will be held on December 6 & 7, with a melange of music, nature, adventure, culture and food on offer for travellers. Founded by Ridalang Tariang and Sahil Majaw, this festival is today a platform that celebrates both the rich heritage and contemporary artistry of Meghalaya.

While Umiam Lake is popular with travellers looking to hit the waters, with activities like paddle boats, water scooters, and speed boats, the Hills Festival takes it all up a notch by adding to its cornucopia of experiences, cultural events, concerts and local food.
