The Amazon MX Player’s StreamNext 2025 was held on January 30 at a five-star hotel in Mumbai and was a star-studded affair. The event started on a slow note and made people restless but soon, prominent personalities like Bobby Deol, Suniel Shetty, Malaika Arora, Remo D’Souza, Saba Azad, etc, came on the stage to promote their shows and it spiked interest levels. One of the most unique announcements of the event was that of the upcoming show, First Copy .
The format of the event was that the host Aparshakti Khurana would announce the name of the series followed by its actor coming on stage. But for First Copy , lead actor Munawar Faruqui appeared on stage and while he was talking, Gulshan Grover, who also stars in the show, rose from the audience area. He had a mic in his hand and he responded to Munawar’s dialogues.
He then joined Munawar on stage. The teaser of First Copy was unveiled and it led to laughs as Munawar Faruqui plays a man who pirates films for a living. The show is set in the year 1999 and in the announcement video, he’s seen making a copy of a film and on the CD, he writes ‘HDDCS (1999)’.
HDDCS stands for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s musical Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam starring Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Ajay Devgn and which was released in 1999. One wonders if the makers would actually spell out the name of the film. They don’t do that but in the next shot, the poster of the film can be seen, though not clearly.
