A woman from Mumbai fell victim to a cyber fraud, losing Rs 3.37 lakh to a man she met on the dating app Tinder. The victim, reportedly an art director by profession, had started conversing with a person named ‘Advait’ on Tinder just last month.
Their conversations soon turned into what appeared to be a promising friendship. According to the police, ‘Advait’ claimed to be abroad and informed the woman that he would be visiting Mumbai on September 16 to meet her in person. However, on that day, the woman received a call from an individual claiming to be a customs officer from Delhi.
The caller informed her that ‘Advait’ had been detained at the airport with a large sum of Euros in his possession. The woman reportedly paid Rs 3.37 lakh through UPI transactions to secure the man's release.
Soon after, she received another call demanding an additional Rs 4.99 lakh to facilitate the release. ALSO SEE: Scam Alert!
