BMC ’s G-North ward had initiated action to carry out demolition of unauthorised parts of the mosque on September 21 which had to be stopped after the trustees had sought four to five days' time to remove the illegal extensions on their own.
Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiyya took to X (formerly twitter) sharing images of the demolition. Dharavi police had arrested three persons for vandalising a BMC vehicle and obstructing traffic near Shamiana Junction on 90 Feet Road on the morning of September 21 when BMC had visited the site to take action. They allegedly threw stones at a BMC vehicle, breaking its front windshield, sat on the road blocking traffic.
Subsequently, a case was registered invoking multiple sections of the IPC , Maharashtra Police Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, and Section 7 of the Criminal Amendment Act..
