Mumbai recorded over its monthly average rainfall within five days from September 23 to 27, with total seasonal rainfall exceeding 3,000 mm. Moderate rain is expected until October 1. MUMBAI: Mumbai received more than its monthly average rain in just five days of the wet spell starting Sept 23, Monday.
In the five day span the city recorded 393 mm between September 23 and 27, surpassing the average of 359.6 mm for the month. This wet spell also pushed the total seasonal rainfall past 3,000 mm, with the Santacruz observatory recording 3,016 mm as of the morning of September 27.
The cyclonic circulation over north Konkan which brought in the wet spell, now lies over southwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood extending upto middle tropospheric levels said the IMD . Heavy rainfall continued to lash the city even in the 24 hours between Sept 26-27 with 73.9 mm of rains being recorded by the IMD Santacruz observatory while the Colaba observatory in the same period recorded 43 mm of rains.
Rainfall recorded between 64.5mm-115.5mm falls in the heavy rain category as per the weather bureau classification.
Meanwhile moderate rain is when rain recorded is anywhere between 15.6mm up to 64.4mm.
According to the IMD forecast, only moderate rainfall is expected in the city between September 28 and October 1 with a green alert in place. Friday morning saw some passing heavy showers in South Mumbai which by afternoon was seen in the western suburbs as well. Weather enthusiasts Abhijit Modak s.
