This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 48, out of 868 suspected cases, across 20 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). NCDC recorded that the outbreak has spread to 35 Local Government Areas, with 19 states and the FCT recording one confirmed case each.

A notable surge, according to records, was observed in week 34, with eight confirmed cases reported, compared to just one case in week 33. According to the Mpox situation report published on the NCDC’s website on Friday, no deaths have been recorded from the outbreak so far as the agency continues to monitor the situation and provide updates on the outbreak. The records, “Lagos recorded (one), Rivers (two), Bayelsa (six), Abia (one), Delta (two), Imo (one), Edo (one), FCT (two), Anambra (two), Cross River (five) cases.

“Others are Plateau (two), Akwa Ibom (four), Nasarawa (one), Oyo (one), Kaduna (one), Ebonyi (one), Benue (three), Enugu (eight), Osun (two), Kebbi (one), and Zamfara (one).” The report clarified that “57 new suspected cases were reported in Epi week 34, 2024, compared with 25 cases reported in the previous week (Epi week 33),” adding that eight confirmed cases were reported in week.
