Pune: Maharashtra Pollution Control Board on Tuesday issued show-cause notice to Ranjangaon MIDC as to why legal actions should not be taken against it for not complying with environmental norms . Officials from the board visited the industrial site on September 13 and observed that multiple operative systems were not functional, which could lead to unscientific effluent discharge. This prompted action against the executive engineer of Ranjangaon MIDC, who has been asked to show cause as to why no legal action should be taken against the corporation.

The consent violations included lack of upgradation in common effluent treatment plant , which could lead to excessive discharge in MIDC vicinity. Sludge pumps, which are generally used for oil separation, were found to be non-operational. Aerators of equalisation tanks and clarifiers were not functional, along with lack of display boards.

Most importantly, a joint vigilance sample of treated water taken in presence of industry members was observed to be higher than the prescribed limits by the board. "We received the show-cause notice from MPCB office on Tuesday. We cooperated with MPCB officials during their visit to the CETP (common effluent treatment plant).
