Patna : With Rakshabandhan round the corner, the festive spirit has gripped the city. Markets have come alive with eager shoppers, while the streets are lined with makeshift stalls selling an array of rakhis and personalised gifts. Girls, both young and old, could be spotted carefully selecting the perfect threads that symbolise the cherished bond of love and protection between siblings.

This year, the fusion of tradition and modernity is evident, with eco-friendly, biodegradable rakhis becoming the choice for many. Bracelet-style rakhis are flying off the shelves, reflecting a contemporary twist to the classic tradition. A complete set of rakhi-thalis are also in vogue, which starts from Rs 100 and goes up to Rs 500.

According to shopkeepers, this customised thalis have all essential stuffs like akshat, sandalwood, sugar candy and rodi, which are required during Rakshabandhan. Roshan Kumar, a shopkeeper at Kadamkuan, said this year, the customers are more attracted towards rakhis made of rudraksh having image of Lord Ram. “These rakhis cost Rs 80 to Rs 250 depending on the size, design and material used.

This time all the rakhis have been ordered from Kolkata,” he said.
