Some parents use an app on their phone to track the whereabouts of their children who are wearing a smartwatch. Photo: Getty Question: My new partner has three children from his first marriage. He co-parents with his ex 50/50, but she is difficult to say the least.

We recently took the kids on a staycation, and when we collected them from her house, the eldest one was wearing a smartwatch with a GPS tracker built into it. I knew what it was the minute I saw it. There is an app on her phone that she can use to track their location at all times and, by default, track my partner and me 24/7.

I’ve also heard that some of these watches have drop-in microphones so parents can listen into conversations. Taking my human right to privacy into consideration, we left the watch at home and went on holiday. She called their son the whole time, barking at him about not wearing it.
