Daltonganj: A team of three orthopaedic surgeons , two anaesthetists, and six operation theatre (OT) assistants performed the first total hip replacement (THR) surgery of Daltonganj at Medinirai Medical College Hospital ( MMCH ). Civil surgeon and head of the team that conducted the THR, Dr Anil Kumar, said, “The Thursday’s surgery was the first at the hospital since its upgrade from a sadar hospital in 2019.” Patient Chanarmani Devi (55) was a native of Pathak Pagar village under Pipra Tarn PS.
“She was in pain and but had no money. We got her an Ayushman card in two weeks,” he added. The surgery, which lasted for around an hour, was performed at the cost of Rs 95,000.
The implants were brought from Ranchi. The surgery was a collaborative effort of orthopaedic plastic surgeon Dr Pravin Siddharth and his OT-trained assistants. The patient had no issues with hemoglobin.
She is under observation and responding well to treatment.
