Nadine Azari, who made the top five for the beauty pageant in 2022, has once again made the finals. The competition, which has 20 finalists from around the UK, aims to empower African women by providing a platform where they can showcase their beauty, intelligence, talents and community involvement. Miss Azari will be raising funds for Guernsey Mind, after raising £750 in 2022 for Whitechapel Mission, which supports the homeless in London.
‘The reason I chose Guernsey Mind as my charity is to raise awareness about mental health within the African community in Guernsey and beyond,’ she said. Miss Azari now works in the finance industry at Lloyds Bank, after fleeing Ukraine within 24 hours due to the ongoing conflict. She continued her medical studies online and in Poland, but has now settled into island life.
She said that the beauty pageant finals consisted of four rounds in front of a panel of judges and an audience – these include evening dress, fitness in swimsuit, national costume and a talent round. ‘I’m so excited to be representing Guernsey again in the finals. Getting a chance to represent Guernsey especially on a platform like MAGB, where I get to inspire young African girls on the island, is an amazing opportunity,’ she said.
Contestants get involved in various charitable projects, particularly those that benefit communities in Africa and the African diaspora. ‘As part of this competition I will be fundraising for Guernsey Mind by doing a sponsored wa.
